Using Mobile to Authenticate

PhoneFactor on Leveraging Multi-Factor
Organizations looking to leverage multi-factor authentication should consider mobile devices for their unique capabilities, says Sarah Fender of PhoneFactor.

"The phone is the authentication device of the future," says Fender, vice president of marketing and product management, in an interview with Information Security Media Group at Gartner Summit 2012.

Smart phones offer unique capabilities, she explains, such as biometric authentication, location tracking and a camera.

Fender is vice president at PhoneFactor, a unit of Microsoft. She joined the company in 2007 to lead the initial launch of the PhoneFactor service, and she continues to manage the product line. Prior to joining PhoneFactor, she held various executive leadership roles in marketing and operations at LaGarde, whose technology platform powered online operations for thousands of B2B and B2C clients.
